Since the cellphone has been invented, the plastic back cover has been there. It is a practical item that can easily access the battery just by removing it. The convenience of this is flexibility and durability. There are different types of plastic grade but consumers do not know this.

Ever since Samsung released the original Galaxy S model, they have use plastic for the back cover casing up until the Galaxy S6. Before the S6 model came out, many critical reviewers have criticize Samsung for the use of the plastic back cover due to it’s cheap feeling.

There are many phones out there with plastic back cover but why is Samsung the lightning rod for this criticism? It it because Samsung is the best selling brand for Android? Many Apple fans do not like Samsung? Or is it something different?

I have notice that the LG G4 uses plastic back case. Even the Nokia Windows Phone uses plastic back cover. Recently, the One Plus 2 also uses plastic back cover. The reviewers are not complaining the above phones for having plastic back cover. If they complain, should the brands also change their strategy to make their phones be more premium and leave out the practicality of having a plastic removable back cover? It certainly is an enigma that Samsung is a victim of complaints they also remove the practicality of plastic back covers and now many of their fans are left wondering when it will come back.

When the Galaxy S6 was first announced, I was disappointed that the battery is not removable anymore. Not only that, looking at the disassemble guide, it is nearly impossible to change the battery without damaging the phone. Phones cell phones these days are becoming disposable but that is another issue.

If we look at the past Nokia. Many of their premium phones had metal back covers, which was removable to gain access to the battery. Maybe all phones  should look at the yesteryear of phone designs.

Cell phones these days are an investment for consumers. Battery do not hold their 100% original charge back when they are new. It would be nice for us consumers to have the benefits of removable back cover and battery that can make the phone last for years. It could either be plastic or removable metal.
